Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals
What is reach
A new EU regulation regarding the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals, REACh came into effect on 1st June 2007 and applies to substances manufactured or imported into the EU in quantities of 1MT, or more, per year.
Streamlining and improving former legislative framework, REACh replaces a number of European Directives and Regulations with one single system and has several aims, including:
- To protect human health and the environment from chemical usage
- To ensure both manufacturers and importers are responsible for understanding and managing risks associated with chemical usage
- To allow free movement of substances on the EU market
- To promote alternative methods for assessing hazardous properties of substances, for example; quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) and read across
Chemisphere’s Responsibility
As a leading independent accredited chemical distributor and agent, we take our business responsibilities very seriously.
We comply fully with the REACh requirement for importers to register substances with a central European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), in order for the collection and collation of specified sets of information on the properties of those substances supplied. ECHA is located in Helsinki, Finland, and manages all associated processes with chemical substance manufacture and import to ensure consistency across the countries in which REACh applies.
